Ali | Breathe Carolina "Savages"

Ali here! So if you haven't noticed, the whole point of the blog is that Hillary and I have different styles and are two completely different people.  We share a love of hip hop music but other than that our music tastes differ drastically.

I have always really been into rock music. That means everything from classic rock and alt rock, all the way to metal music. I know I know... I hear it all the time...."You don't look like the kind of girl that would listen to metal music." Preaching to the choir here! I guess you can attribute my love of rock music to my mother. She was always blaring The Rolling Stones and dancing around the house. I also grew up with friends from all different cultures and walks of life and a lot of those friends were heavily into the local alt music scene.

Anyways.... I am a lover of all things music related and you will probably see me post a lot of different things in relation to music and what I am into at the time. Today I wanted to give my thoughts on the new Breathe Carolina "Savages" album that just dropped.

As usual Breathe Caroline f*cking killed it! Every album they release is better than the last. They always amaze me with their ability to grow and change their music to keep up with the times, while also staying true to who they are. Since the last album Kyle Even has left but the band still seems to be keeping up. Only change is that this album seems to lack a little in the screamo that Kyle used to bring to the band but still an excellent album.

Band: Breathe Carolina - Denver. CO bred band
Album Name: Savages
Genre: "Synthcore"  (Synthpop + metalcore)
Fav Tracks: 1. Bang It Out (SOOO EPIC!! Music Video below!) They have
a girl singer on this track named Karmin and it absolutely
makes the song. Check Karmin out >>> here
2. Shots Fired - This song is one of the slower more melodic songs on the album
3. Collide - This is your amp it up song. The song you use to get
ready to and make you want to dance. Generally just a
really good up beat feel good song.

Check out the artists and give them a listen!

Hope you like it!

One of the best things about living in the City of Angels, is the endless shows that roll through. And when two of our favorite artists, are playing together at one of our favorite venues, the night can't be anything BUT amazing.

We were lucky enough to chill in the art-deco building, now known as The El Rey Theatre, that was built in 1936. A little backstory on El Rey -- what once was a single-screen movie theatre, turned dance club, now houses some of the greatest music acts, and living in LA, YOU have to go. If you haven't yet visited this little gem, hop onto Ticketmaster NOW!

Now onto the good stuff, the music. The lineup for the evening, was anything short of amazing. Local hip-hop artist Blackbear was the first to crash the stage, and while we were in the crowd dancing to our favorite beats, he was killing it on stage. If you aren't familiar with his work, you can check it out here: https://soundcloud.com/iamblackbear. Next up, was Mod Sun, a hip-hop artist from Minnesota, who has the one of the greatest energies we've ever experienced. Princess Pia Mia was next in line--one of the more entertaining sets, thanks to her sexy backup dancers. And, last but not least, was T Mills! A hip hop artist from Riverside (Hillary's hometown) who killlllllled it. If you're into artists who sound JUST like their albums, live, then he's your boy. Check him out >> here!

We love music, and we love concert fashion. So, here's a tip! If you want to look your best, do yourself a favor, and DO NOT wear the artists merch while standing in the crowd. Save that T for the next day! You'll thank us later!

xx

#NoChella

#NoChella - AKA we weren’t THAAAT lucky to prance around in a field, drunk, wearing our favorite sunnies and call it the musical festival of the year. Coachella is more the fashion/pool party weekend of the year, if we’re honest. Sure, the lineup is amaze (Lorde, drool) but really more than half of So Cal’s finest attend Coachella to get their first tan of the year, drink beer by the pool and dawn their most recent boho chic finds. We sound a little bitter, but that’s because we’re not there.

Instead of attending one of the most talked about festivals, we went and got freaky with nature, wearing our favorite Free People X Jeffrey Campbell booties, and trusted Levi Denim shorts. We can’t complain about how our Saturday turned out - not every one can drive 10 minutes and be in pure bliss. Surrounded by nature, seconds away from the beach and in pure silence, BLISS.

If you want to pretend that you got down in Indio, too - you can. Boho chic is not JUST for Chella, rock that shit.

Outfit details:

Ali -
Dress: Vintage courtesy of the Melrose Trading Post
Shorts: Distressed vintage Levi's

Hillary -
Shorts: Homemade distressed Levi’s
Sunnies: Ray Ban

Ali | Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe

Props to my girl Katie Skolas for taking such amazing pictures for me! For this look I wanted to try something a little different and edgier. I had a new pair of EFxJM cat ears and new Mac lipstick (cyber) that I was dying to put into one look. Since I generally just don't like wearing clothes...not lying....I decided to pair this with some American Apparel boyshorts and a Brandy Melville "Bitch don't kill my vibe" cropped tee.

We have more pictures to share from this shoot coming soon so stay tuned!

Music We Are Loving This Week

If Coachella's line-up was not amaaaazzzing enough - recently dropped albums are just as amazing.
So, if you're not attending the annual music festival, there's still great music to be heard.

Since, we're caught up in the 9-5 (@ fashion e-commerce start-up BeachMint) - we're always discovering new music, and love sharing with each other. I mean, Ali is responsible for my love-obsession with BlackBear (check him out here: iamblackbear.) So, if you're game for new music, and need music to stay sane, check out the tracks below, you won't be disappointed. Or don't, and stay bored.
